This Local Contexts project encompasses all physical objects housed in the Allan Herbarium that have been collected from anywhere around the world.
The Allan Herbarium contains algae, moss, lichen, liverwort, hornwort, ferns and seed plants from around the world. It specialises in the indigenous and exotic flora of New Zealand and the South Pacific regions.
The collection is housed at Manaaki Whenua in Lincoln. It contains over 820,000 objects, with 5000-8000 objects typically being added each year. The objects in the collection are being digitised to improve the accessibility of these records. Through the addition of new objects and the digitisation of historic collections, the data made digitally accessible is increasing. In addition, the data are also being updated through scientific research (e.g., as objects are re-identified) and curatorial activity on the data and objects.

The BC Notice may indicate that BC Labels are in development and their implementation is being negotiated.
