Christy Caudill | Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre (GCRC), Carleton University
The purpose of this project is to co-design an interactive website and community data store to showcase the Cree knowledge collected as part of the Tawich study. This project is a partnership between Mushkegowuk Council and Carleton University Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre. The interactive website is for the Cree communities to access, share, and interact with their own information, as well as for cultural preservation, a voice for communities, and protection of the lands and waters. It will be driven by the stories of people interviewed during the Tawich study with photographs, videos, Cree voice recordings, and animations with geo-referenced community information. The site will reflect Cree values and ways of knowing. The technologies and project are designed in alignment with data and information ownership, control, access, and possession protocols (OCAP) and as specified by the Mushkegowuk Council and communities. Indigenous contributions to the site materials, including art and other similar contributions, will be managed through copyright and Local Contexts attributions, at the discretion of participating artists and other project contributors.
